Valley basin area of South Eastern Ethiopia's Somali Regional State?.
This is the place you will find extensive information about the Shabelle River Valley, it’s people, cultures, art , business, opportunities
and natural resources development through participatory entrepreneurship as an investor, social participation, humanitarian support or
if you are just an ordinary individual and simply want to reconnect with your Jareer-weyne, Diil-wabi, or with the aboriginal Ethiopian-
Bantu, Somali-Bantu, or an other indigenous native Shabelle enthusiast all the way from Ethiopia to Somalia along the Shabelle river
community , please join us. All are warmly welcome and as we say, join us in the joys of traditional native African heritages.
BODOY's Principal Operational Programmes:
Spearhead the development of the Shabelle Valley riverside community by enhancing support systems for schools, health facilities
with a focus on HIV/AIDS awareness through education and prevention. Also in energy and food security through small holdings
agricultural development and large scale plantations of unique high value nutritious plants, with the necessary physical infrastructure
to realize sustainable and completely self sufficient livelihood for a target population of 40,000 families living in approximately 40
villages. This goal as a BODOY objective to be accomplished by the end of the year 2010.
A: SOCIAL,POLITICAL & TERRITORIAL EMPOWERMENT OF THE OPPRESSED RER-BARRE INDIGENOUS MINORITY.
1a: BODOY is vigorously working to elimination slavery, poverty, ethnic cleansing, bigotry, injustices and official negligence and
subjugation of the Rer-Barre indigenous tribal communities in the Shabelle Valley.
b: Protection of the Shabelle Valley people's human rights in the freedom of faith, promotion of non-violence and gender equality.
2. Deliberately work towards ending the prejudice and underclass status of the Rer-Barre community in the Shabele Valley. Bodoy in
particular focuses on the protection of human rights of the Rer-Barre community in the Shabelle Valley. Bodoy deliberately works to
advance women’s needs and protect them against any abuse, injustice by promoting Ethiopian constitutional and universal rights of
Rer-Barre indigenous women and children in particular. Bodoy will work towards making the Shabelle Valley as a place of and refuge
for all women and peace loving families who intend to prosper through hard work and self confidence. The Shabelle Valley has
abundant water and land resources. Bodoy intends to build a community free of the cycles of hunger commonly accepted in Ethiopia
as a permanent problem.
3. Creating awareness of the Shabelle river Valley's Rer-Barre community, it’s interest, political, social and economic rights. Self
governance and advancement of it’s culture based on mutual harmony of cohabitation by all Ethiopians and other people who elect to
live in the Shabelle Valley and participate it’s development as a sustainable, self sufficient and productive community, without prejudice
in tribal, religious, cast or color of human beings.
4. Identify and spread the Shablle Rer-Bare (Ethiopian-Bantu) community needs with regional and federal Ethiopian authorities, to
development agencies in Ethiopia and reach out to the international community in understanding the plight and needs of the
underprivileged Rer-Bare (Ethiopian-Bantus ) in the Shabelle valley.
5. Develop towards the improvement of traditional arts, crafts, and the introduction of applicable and appropriate technology
for social and rural economic development purposes.
6.Studies and research into the anthropological, historical background, the lives, tradition, archaeological and cultural documentation
of the indiginous Rer-Barre tribal people and other ethnic groups cohabiting in the Shabelle river valley.
B: FOCUS ON ADVOCACY FOR EMPOWERING WOMEN IN THE SHABELLE RIVER VALLEY.
1. Emphasis in promoting women’s role in the formal and informal social spheres.
2. Building and advancing girls schools and educational needs as well as women's skills trainings advancement.
3. Elimination of all forms of domestic violence, child abuse, wife beating, other female abuses and FGM in the Shabelle Valley.
4. Full legalization of women's property and financial ownership rights and advancing women owned small business.
5. Women's capacity building through girls and mothers formal and non-formal education projects.
6. Prioritising of policies that enable women and girls to be the primary beneficiaries of government and international aid projects.
C: STIMULATION OF PROPER UTILIZATION OF NATURAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES IN THE SHABELLE VALLEY.
1. Exploration and identification of Shabelle Valley natural resources to sustain livelihood of the community that lives within the Valley
mainly through resource use management studies.
2.Organizing skilled labor for development and commercial projects.
3.Comprehensive land use development in the Shabelle river valley.
D: BUILDING LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL MUTUAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR DEVELOPMENT:
1. Bodoy will liaison and serve as a bridge between the indigenous habitants of the Shabelle Valley and international aid groups who
offer support and assistance to help the community become self sufficient in food supply and eradication of poverty related problems
stemming from lack of adequate public services such as education, health, water and sanitation , transportation, rural energy and
various rural infrastructure development in the valley. Partnership with external agencies to assist the local population in economic
and social development schemes.
2. Build local public media services such as small rural radio stations, small community TV stations and news papers in the Shabelle
Valley that would serve in education the community of the Ethiopian constitution, promotion of democracy, peace and harmony
as well as serve as source of commercial and farming produce marketing through radio, TV and newspaper advertisements to
stimulate both internal and export commerce. The local public media will also promote indigenous African culture of the
Rer-Barre tribal community. In the Shabelle Valley, emphasizing traditional dances, traditional religious ceremonies, tribal musical
instruments development schemes and using positive traditional rituals to fight the spread of AIDS/HIV, promote family
health services fight public and private corruption. As an important human rights issue, the Bodoy public medial services will also
promote the elimination of children and abuse of women, elimination of destructive family traditions and prejudice against
young girls by helping eliminate female genital mutilation and other injustices against girls and women at the family and communal
level. This by working towards the empowerment of women in the social and economic setting of the Shabelle Valley
community. The local village media will also be used to disseminate innovative and cost effective sustainable farming, improvement of
traditional farming techniques, pest control, better harvesting and food storage and as well as efficient food processing
crops and fruits drying, river fishing techniques and mass media information during emergencies, village committee gatherings and
exploitation of new regional and government economic and social development policies and definitions of new laws
and broadcast of official regulations as well as village elders guidelines and community announcements.
3. As reliable partner with local and international NGO's and government bodies, Bodoy will assume a mandate to coordinate
community participatory roles in all community development initiatives in the Shabelle Valley when we sign specific MOU with external
organizations interested in assisting the community. As stake holders and providers
of community relations facilities and processes, BODOY ensures that all projects are benefiting the intended end users and
beneficiaries and establishes effective and transparent accountability and project performance .
E. CREATE CONDUCTIVE POLICIES FOR LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS INVESTMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
1. Promotion of investment into the valley by small businesses and micro-financing opportunities as well as other means of
entrepreneurship facilitation in the Shabelle river valley. Promote investment by Somali, Ethiopians and other nations private citizens
abroad to invest in the Shabelle river valley in partnership with indigenous farmers in the shabelle with export oriented agricultural
produce.
