MINDS AND HANDS TOGETHER TO DEVELOP THE SHABELLE RIVER VALLEY BASIN !!!!
BODOY will strive to improve the livelihood of it's people while preserving the environment.
The indigenous Shabelle Society, being non-nomadic, but as  agrarian black  African
(As ethnic Ethiopian-Bantu) community is a minority, generally underprivileged and under represented society commonly known as
“RerBaare”  by the local majority nomadic Somali-Ethiopian society.  The ReerBarre community is the only indigenous  aboriginal
“Ethnic-Black African” society of South-Eastern Ethiopia’s  region # 5.   The Shabelle Valley Basin is the only uniquely multi-ethnic,
multi-tribal, multi-cultural, most productive,  law abiding and most peaceful and the only stable zone of region # 5 of Ethiopia.

Sadly however, it is the most neglected and demoted
Zone of the Ethiopia's region  5. Simply because the Shabelle people are the
least violent and least politically involved as oppressed community there is no meaningful social development projects in the Zone.
Thus, BODOY for a self help action group to provide community  capacity building and resource development.

The name “BODOY” was a unique name given to a famous location along the Shebelle Valley by the ancestors of the indigenous
Shebelle River inhabitants about 150 years ago when slavery was introduced to the area by Arab and local Somali sultanates  who
traded in the slavery business.

Predominantly a farming and fishing community, the RerBaare  tribal society, commonly known as "Ethiopian-Bantus",  is a stable
law abiding, non-violent  non-nomadic hardworking people.

BODOY Development Association is the first organization founded mainly by descendants of the slave trade victims who are now
designated as Ethiopian-Bantus. BODOY's  focus is on the needs of these underprivileged  community as one of the most destitute
indigenous people of  South Eastern Ethiopia who were severely neglected by the local authorities for many decades and
subsequently were deemed to have no access whatsoever to the national Ethiopian development schemes for the past many
decades. From this experience, BODOY's founders intend to create a self sufficient (with minimum aid intervention) a fully
functioning progressive community in the Shabelle Valley.

BODOY as an association is registered with all levels of the Ethiopian government including registration at the federal government
level.

BODOY’s founders and senior volunteers as highly experienced professionals, civil society intellectuals and internationally
recognized high caliber personalities, firmly believe  that one of the answers to overcoming poverty  in Africa is through an active and
dynamic leadership role of women at large. Both in the donor and beneficiary ends of development resources. BODOY will therefore
have a principal and a deliberate binding policy to promote female adult education,  in Shabelle and as well engage and involve
maximum female participation in all the social development aspects of it’s operations. BODOY will also give special   emphasis in
developing the cultural, tourism and infrastructure of the Shabelle Valley in order to develop all of the areas potentials in agriculture
and small scale industries and trade. With special emphasis on empowering women by enhancing their  participation in full
ownership of these resources and businesses.

At BODOY, our priority is to build the first truly self sustaining African community free of foreign food aid ( unless in an emergency),
free of poverty, disease , violence, hate , tribalism, racism , religious bias and extremism, as well as free of corruption, and other
opportunistic or organized human rights violations and extra judicial punishments.  In Bodoy, any person lawfully eligible to live in
Ethiopia and peacefully present in Ethiopia, and all  our guests in our midst are protected by the rule of  laws and live with the full
privileges, rights and obligations and protections of the Federal and Regional Constitutions of Ethiopia.  As well as protected by
specific by-laws of the Shabelle River Valley Basin community. Bodoy is promoting stimulation and mobilization of the Shabelle
River Valley basin resources both natural and manpower. This through creating an environment for social justice, equality and a civil
business partnership between local indigenous communities and external investors, donors and support groups.
A precondition however in all circumstances is an understanding that all efforts lead towards economic self reliance, respect for the
environment and the indigenous black African community living in the Valley.
